~*PACK RANKS*~
Alphas (1 Pair)
The alphas are the leading wolves of the pack and the only pair allowed to mate and reproduce. They are the 'ultimate' law within the pack ranking structure.. These wolves are usually the strongest in the pack as they are depended on to both care for and protect the wolves living beneath them.
Betas (1 Pair)
The betas of the pack are a pair of wolves who have been chosen to 'back up' the alphas and their words. The seconds are usually some of the stronger wolves of the pack as their main 'job' is the protection of the members and the alphas. The betas could be considered 'guards' of a sort. The most important role of a beta is perhaps the fact that they ensure the stability of the ranking structure within the pack. Wolves who wish to overthrow the reining pair must first go through the betas.
Subordinates: (Unlimited)
The wolves in the pack who are neither Alphas or Betas are ranked under the subordinates heading. The Subordinates are the middle ranked wolves of the pack and have the option of 'specializing' within the ranks of the pack. Subordinates 'rankings' are ordered by the dominance of the wolves. For instance, a 'medic' could be of a higher rank than a 'guardian'.
Yearlings: (Unlimited)
Yearlings are wolves who have yet to age past two years of age where they are then considered adult wolves within the pack. The yearlings are wolves ranging from ages one year to two years old. They are no longer pups at this age and begin to take more of an active roll within the pack. They will begin learning more things that the adult wolves of a pack do at this age. Also at this age, the Yearlings will begin to be held responsible for their actions.
Pups: (Unlimited)
The pups of the pack are *GENERALLY* going to be the offspring of the mated, leading pair of wolves. As pups, they will be considered a non-ranked non-acting member of the pack until they turn a year old. Pups have no jobs within the pack, and are to mostly concentrate on playing and learning their way about the den.. Things that they do don't usually have an effect on the overall workings of the pack and *usually* the cubs won't be held responsible for the mischief they get into.
Omega: (ONE)
The omega of the pack is the lowest of the wolves and usually the one that gets picked on by the other wolves. An Omega is also a wolf that might have once been a higher rank within the pack - but was demoted due to some kind of transgression or breaking of the rules. Omega wolves *CAN* and may find themselves challenging out of their position. The wolf that an Omega challenges will become Omega should the current win.
~*SPECIALIZATIONS*~
Guardians (3 Wolves)
Guardians are wolves who may actually be in training for a Beta position. These wolves are generally larger beasts, those loyal to the alphas and betas as well as to the other wolves of the pack. They are usually the ones that patrol the borders, or the ones that may be called upon to protect the other animals in the pack. Guardians are usually chosen if they have shown exemplary actions within their 'field'.
Healers (2 Wolves)
Healers are generally more 'soft spoken' of the wolves in the pack, ones that dedicate themselves to the healing of injured or sick pack members. These wolves will have some extensive knowledge in the herbal medicines around the pack lands and their uses. They are the ONLY wolves who have the right to boss the alphas and betas around. In matters of health, that is.
Scouts (2 wolves)
Scouts are generally the fastest wolves of the pack, not usually the strongest. They are the ones sent outside the borders to find out the goings on of the other packs without getting caught. They are also the wolves that are used to peruse the pack borders and search for threats. They may also be used as messengers by the higher ranking wolves - as their speed lends them best to this task. Scouts have the authority to call for help from any members of the pack should they run into trouble. As they are the fastest.. not usually the strongest.
Hunter (Unlimited)
Wolves that have shown themselves to be talented hunters or knowledgeable about tactics surrounding hunting are the ones that are usually chosen to be hunters. They are the ones more likely to be chosen to lead pack hunts even if they are among the lowest of the pack members.
Adviser (1 wolf)
The adviser is a wolf chosen by the alphas to do exactly that - advise their choices and actions. Generally the adviser can be considered one of the oldest wolves in the pack - a wolf who might usually be chosen to watch the pups and act as a 'teacher' for the wolves.
